[ Date: 2015.12.28 ] [ Co-Chairs: mod6 [R.01] && ben_vulpes [R.02] ] 0x00] Introduction It is with great honor and privilege that The Bitcoin Foundation embraces this opportunity to address the public on the state of current progress, obstacles and continuing steps in our mission. As 2015 draws to a close, The Bitcoin Foundation has been in operation for little over one year since its inception. During the year of 2015, The Foundation completed one full release [v0.5.3.1] and is nearing completion of a second full release [v0.5.4]. The Foundation looks forward to continued work in 2016. 0x01] Accomplishments [ Programmable Version Strings ]: asciilifeform [R.04] created a new vpatch [R.05] that allows for setting the Reference Implementation's version via command line flags. [ Mempool Analysis ]: jurov [R.06] conducted an analysis of the memory pool and provided a report [R.07] detailing his results. The report, patch, and corresponding graphed results are well worth a review. Twice if necessary. [ AWS Banhammer ]: asciilifeform [R.04] mitigated a DDoS attack against nodes running the Foundation's Reference Implementation. The attack was originating from AWS IP space; the fix was to null-route traffic from these IP blocks. This is important to note should you be using any of the nodes listed in the wiki [R.08]. asciilifeform provided his banhammer as a script to the mailing list [R.09]. 0x02] Complications and Obstacles 0x03] Continuing Steps The continued road to v0.5.4-RELEASE: During the month of December the Foundation has focused on steps to a completed release of v0.5.4. There are still some remaining tasks of getting the build scripts finalized and configuration files placed in an appropriate locations. Thanks to trinque [R.0A] for helping the Foundation complete these tasks. 0x04] Conclusion The Bitcoin Foundation would like to bestow our sincerest thanks and gratitude to the contributors and community for its support and insight.
